Happy "Oink Day" to you all!
Who knew that March 1st was National Pig Day? I sure didn't. The month of March roars in recognizing these chubby friends for their high level of intelligence, ability to both learn and perform tricks, as well as for being loving, domesticated pets. National Pig Day is celebrated at zoos and rescue farms throughout the states. Activities include "Snort offs and Pig Outs". Wouldn't you know that this national event was all started by a Texas art teacher who wanted to express her gratitude for the pigs in her life.
I bet that you didn't know that pigs could be so much fun. Share the fun with your kids with a book or two about pigs?

Looking for a fun way to celebrate pigs with your kids? Check out The Gentle Barn at 15825 Sierra highway in Santa Clarita, California. Their website, gentlebarn.org. , has more info to share.
The Gentle Barn is an animal rescue shelter with a mission: to rescue, rehabilitate and give sanctuary to abused animals. A visit to The Gentle Barn is a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon (they’re only open to the public on Sundays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) to teach kids how to love and respect all animals. While here they can groom the horses, brush the cows, give the pigs tummy rubs, hug the goats and sheep, sit under the shade trees, munch on popcorn, and make new friends. A $10 donation per person is requested.
Not from California? Check on line to find a local zoo or farm near you.
Read a book, rub a tummy and enjoy National Pig Day!
