You think that you'll never forget the day your child took their first steps, but will you retain all of the who, what & where's of this special event?
What was happening the day your little one wore their first soccer cleats or ballet slippers?
Were they eating cereal when they uttered their first dada or mama?
How did your youngster respond when you introduced them to The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar, their first movie theater or Disneyland for the first time?
Certainly camera phones make the visual recording of events far easier. But what about .……...
Did I cry the first time he seemed to know that I was mom? Did my husband glow as she kicked her first soccer goal? Did we cringe with a questionable report card or stress with their first shots? Which kid was it that was afraid of the ocean waves or the waters of Lake Gregory? Or was that me?
I wish I had taken the few minutes to record the joy, pain, fear, elation and never ending self-doubt that I experienced each time my kids grew a little more, took on a new challenge or needed our support to handle a problem that seemed bigger than they were.
One other reason to record your children's life events in detail is that it cuts down on future fights when each of them claims that it was them that earned the first swimming badge, introduced kid prepared tacos to the family menu or learned how to drive without ever putting the fear of God in the eyes of a parent.
Write away! You'll be glad that you did.
