Well over a year ago my niece gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. As a gift I created him a Hungry Hungry Caterpillar quilt and mailed it to him along with a copy of the book. You can see it by clicking on About Me.
Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, the Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar was his older sisters’ “most favorite book” and she was quite distraught that he had received book and blanket and she had not.
In an attempt to remedy my error, this Christmas I asked my niece what her daughter’s other most favorite story book was? Her response was, “anything that has to do with princesses”.
And so my quest began to find a book and materials to make a princess quilt. I didn’t want to make just any princess quilt. I wanted to make one that would tell a story of its own; one that would complement the tale of The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Andersen.
And so I did and you can too!
On the front center of the quilt is a picture of the Princess from the story, Princess and the Pea. I found this preprinted piece of fabric on Etsy. Several vendors carried it and it was not expensive at all.
On the back of the quilt is embroidered the name of my royal great niece along with thoughts about what a princess should be. A princess is kind, A Princess keeps her castle clean, A Princess reads a lot, A princess shares and other princess attributes.
I understand that she loves her blanket and I had a lot of fun making it. And, to complete this gift, we had to tuck in a copy of the book and of course, a magic wand - something every princess needs!
