Yes, kids should eat fruit. In fact I'm all for promoting healthy eating habits for kids. And I love the fact that these kids love to eat oranges. But come on, suggesting that it's okay to sic your cat on dad when there aren't any oranges left in the kitchen stinks! Clearly, promoting respect for a parent is far from the picture when dad cowers, covered with cat scratches, next to a triumphantly smiling child.
And how about the kid who throws a fit in the store until dad loads up the shopping cart with oranges. What are we teaching our kids? Sure, the commercial is directed at parents, but convince me that some child is not going to see this and think, "Wow, if I want something all I have to do is to throw a fit in the market, why not try it out?"
The message that I think the company may want to send is that kids really love Cuties. However, the message that is clearly communicated is that if a kid really wants something all they need to do is to pummel, embarrass and bully their parent. Yikes!
